PortMiami sits on Dodge Island, reached by one bridge and one tunnel, with the city immediately across the water. It looks close, and it is close, which is exactly why people assume a florist can drive over and hand flowers to someone boarding. Getting onto the island is the part that is harder than it looks. The strongest fallback at this port, because the hotel districts are dense, close and used heavily by embarking passengers. It requires the passenger's real name, a named hotel and a date, and it only works if they are actually staying the night before. Send it to the hotel the night before, not the morning of.

Terminal and pier delivery

Dodge Island is a secured federal facility with seven terminal complexes, reached by one bridge and one tunnel. Access on a turnaround day is controlled, credentialed and busy.

This is a real option here, and the one to take the most care with. Deliveries onto a ship go through the vessel's agent and suppliers who hold port credentials. Some florists can arrange that. More advertise it than can actually do it. Before you rely on it, ask three questions and expect clear answers to all three: have they delivered to this specific terminal before, who signs for it at the other end, and can they get it there several hours before departure rather than close to sailing time. A vague answer to any of them means you should use one of the other two paths.

A hotel drop only works if you send to the building the passenger is actually sleeping in. These are the clusters that matter at this port.

Downtown and Brickell

The closest cluster to the terminals and the one most embarking passengers book. A courier crossing from Brickell to a downtown hotel is a short, predictable run, which is what makes a hotel drop work here.

Miami Beach

Popular with passengers who want a night on the beach first, and separated from the port by a causeway. Traffic on the MacArthur and Julia Tuttle is the risk, not distance.

Airport and Doral

Chosen for early flights rather than for the view. Fine for a hotel drop, well away from everything else.

If the ship has already sailed

If the ship has already left, the honest answer is that you have missed it. The cruise line gift desk will not deliver to the next port on your behalf, and flowers cannot be landed in a foreign port as a private delivery without an importer. Send something to the home address for when they get back, or plan it for the next cruise. One thing worth knowing before you call anyone: money already paid to a florist for a pier delivery is usually not refundable once the driver has been dispatched.
